Does my guarantor have to have paid off their mortgage?

Your guarantor does not have to have paid off their mortgage in order to help you. The quickest way for us to prove your guarantor owns their home is seeing monthly mortgage payments on their credit file. If they have paid off their mortgage we won't be able to see any monthly activity and may therefore need proof of homeownership.

Ask your guarantor if they're still paying their mortgage, if not they'll need to give you a copy of the deeds or a letter confirming the purchase. Don't worry about this now though, just get your signed form back to us, your caseworker will talk you through what you need to do.
